About Me

I grew up in Santa Monica CA and began biking to school from an early age.  Cycling became the most practical way to get around and a source of independence.  In high school I started a bike club with  Rachel and some other friends where we started a regular bike to school day, an originally unsanctioned event that has grown to be a major sponsored district-wide event.  I just recently graduated college at UC Santa Cruz this past summer with a degree in Cultural Anthropology.  In school involved with a student run bike culture and maintenance class, helped orchestrate a helmet give-away and I supervised an after-school bike club for middle school kids.   Though not defined by my role as “that bike guy”, it has become a major part of who I am and my area of interest that blends so well with all my other forms of advocacy be it sustainability or transportation policy.  I’m excited to take to take this advocacy on the road with Rachel and see what kinds of adventures we get into along the way!

Owen! Your dad’s 1st cousin Geoff here! So excited to hear about the trip! If your route brings you through Chicago, please stop by and stay a bit! We’ve got a little coach house that’s all yours if you want. We’ll be following your trip here! Amy will be excited- she rides her bike to work regularly, and she did RAGBRAI one (and a half) times!
    Best, Geoff

Good luck Owen. Your Gorman grandparents were great friends of my parents, so with that luck I know what a true adventurerer you are and that the gene has been passed. Have a great and safe trip. Proud of what you’re doing.
